Membership Development

In Texas, and nationally, businesses are facing many challenges: increased government intrusion, taxes, ever-rising insurance costs, and bludgeoning government bureaucracies to name a few.  The mission of the Texas Association of Business (TAB) is to make Texas the best business climate in the world, and each member of TAB’s staff is crucial to our success.

A viable, growing membership, however, is the only means TAB has to counteract the voices of big labor, big government, trial lawyers and the many other special interest groups that could potentially interfere with our goals. As a part of the Membership Development Team, you will be responsible for assisting TAB with the development and growth of our association and, therefore, will be instrumental in the fulfillment of our promise to Texas business.

Regional Manager, Sales

The Regional Manager is responsible for prospecting, developing, and closing new business accounts in the assigned territory and vertical market segments.  More specifically, this includes all new account development activities, such as developing account strategies, assisting in defining customer requirements, sales presentations, and acquiring and retaining members.  Business opportunities are memberships to the Texas Association of Business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prospects and develops new members of the Texas Association of Business
  • Develops and maintains current and comprehensive understanding of the Texas legislative issues affecting businesses leaders in every market segments
  • Develops and implements sales/account plans to accomplish new and renewal sales for the business
  • Actively works customer engagements and directly closes new and ongoing members
  • Delivers sales presentations to prospects and renewing members
  • Submits weekly planning / accomplishment reports and business / sales forecasts
  • Maintains close and direct ties to company management to keep abreast of and share developing customer issues

Additional Information:

  • Reports to: Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing
  • Travel Requirements:   Primarily local within sales region
  • Location: Virtual, working from home office in assigned territory. A Regional Managers works daily within his/her assigned territory and must possess the ability to drive the territory during normal work hours.
  • Compensation: Exempt; competitive, performance-based advanced salary against commission program (with no cap on earnings potential); competitive benefits package; car allowance

Desired Skills & Experience

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Direct selling experience in the business-to-business environment
  • Excellent driving record
    • Any applicant having any of the following may not be considered for employment:
      • A conviction for driving while intoxicated or driving under the influence of drugs or controlled substances within the past three (3) years
      • A suspension or revoked driver's license during the past three (3) years as the result of a DUI conviction, citable accident, or citable moving violation
      • Accidents leading to citations or citable moving violations that resulted in more than three (3) infractions within the past three (3) years

Additional Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience growing a sales territory
  • Above average understanding of legislative issues affecting business
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and negotiating skills
  • Direct sales experience
  • High level relationship-selling skills
  • Experience working with multiple businesses types
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial experience a plus

Inside Sales Representative

The Inside Sales Representative is primarily responsible for retention calls to existing members, prospecting, lead generation, follow-up, and opportunity management.  The ISR will work as part of an integrated sales team with specific goals and responsibilities.  Additionally, the ISR will assist in meeting and exceeding departmental goals, such as membership sales and retention, and will assist in cross-selling clients on all association offerings, including, but not limited to events, HR Benefits, products, etc.  The ISR will perform other duties, as assigned to enhance the overall efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contact, acquire and sell memberships to businesses via telephone and email
  • Achieve both revenue and new membership departmental sales goals
  • Generate cold calls by actively seeking new businesses and completing follow-up appropriately
  • Learn and possess a general understanding of Association issues, products, and events
  • Manage the member application process and any necessary follow-up for the applicant
  • Manage relationships and engage members per the requirements of Association Member Engagement Program
    • Provide a deeper connection to the Association for the member
    • Identify and deliver the best combination of resources for the member’s needs to increase the value they receive from the organization
    • Support retention of the member
  • Manage leads, prospects and member information by updating database accordingly
  • Maintain awareness of activities and resources by building strong relationships with other departments
  • Complete necessary administrative duties including but limited to:  call reports, expenses, preparing membership packets, etc.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Additional Information:

  • Reports to: Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM (40 hours/week)

  • Compensation: Non-exempt; competitive hourly wage, plus potential for performance-based bonuses; competitive benefits package

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of two years sales experience with membership, service or other intangible products would be preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point)
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to correspond and communicate effectively with prospects and members regarding membership features and benefits
  • Excellent phone skills and ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with internal and external customers
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to independently manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Willingness to spend all day, every day interacting with prospects, members and other staff via phone and in person
  • Experience working in a membership organization
  • College degree preferred
