Bill Hammond Bio
- Chief Executive Officer
Bill Hammond is the Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Association of Business (TAB) and has led the state's most influential business and chamber organization since April 1998.
At the helm of TAB, Hammond has worked aggressively and successfully to ensure a strong pro-business tax and regulatory climate in Texas. His proven track record of leadership in support of Texas business includes the aggressive pursuit of worker's compensation reform and building broad-based coalitions to successfully advocate for quality Pre-Kindergarten education, greater transparency and accountability in K-12 public education, and for much needed reforms to the state’s higher education system. The Texas Tribune called Hammond &l fierce accountability advocate.
Texas Monthly named Hammond one of the top 25 most powerful people in Texas politics in 2011. Campaign & Politics magazine recognized Hammond in 2010 as one of the state's Top 10 Most Influential Figures in Politics and Government.
Prior to leading TAB, Hammond served for three years as employer representative on the three-member Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and was appointed chairman of the commission by then-Governor George W. Bush.
He served four-terms in the Texas House of Representatives during the 1980s where he successfully authored the Texas Education Agency Sunset Bill, and was named one of the states top ten legislators by Texas Monthly and Dallas Morning News.
A former employer, Hammond was owner and president of Dallas Tent and Awning Company prior to his public service in state government and leadership of TAB.
He and his wife, Deborah, reside in Austin. She is a licensed clinical social worker. The couple has three children: John, Phil, and Caroline.
Chris Wallace Bio
Chris E. Wallace, IOM, CCE is President of the Texas Association of Business, the state chamber of commerce. In this role, he oversees TAB’s team responsible for operations, membership/marketing, strategy, administration and chamber relations. Prior to joining the TAB team, Wallace was the President/Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber, the third largest chamber of commerce in North Texas and the first national Five-Star Accredited Chamber in Texas. He also managed the Irving Economic Development Partnership. Wallace serves as a Trustee of the Institute for Organization Management as well as a Regent of Northeast Institute at Villanova University. He is among only 530 executives in the nation who have earned their CCE (Certified Chamber Executive) designation. Wallace is a past chairman of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives Association and also serves on the national board of the Business & Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC).
During his leadership at the Irving-Las Colinas Chamber, Irving was successful in attracting corporations such as Envoy, Celanese, CHRISTUS, Neovia (Caterpillar) Logistics Services, Blackberry, Fluor, TXU Energy, Consolidated Electrical Distributors and Health Management Systems to establish their headquarters in Irving. Wallace’s leadership also led to the construction and completion of an award-winning marketing center which showcases state-of-the-art technology as well as the development of an international trade center in partnership with the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce. Both are instrumental in promoting Irving as an international community that is home to more than 9,000 businesses, including the global headquarters of five Fortune 500 companies and the presence of 48 others.
Wallace has also served as the Vice President of Administration for the Las Colinas Association where he successfully developed and implemented a corporate communications and marketing program for the 12,000-acre Las Colinas development.
He is a 1992 graduate of Texas Tech University and serves as a member of the Texas Tech Chancellor's Council as well as the Professional Advisory Board of the College of Media and Communication where he was named an outstanding alumnus in 1988. Wallace has experience in economic development marketing, strategic planning, and public relations including management in both the public and private sectors. He has played an active role in several local and state political campaigns. Wallace is an advocate of strong civic engagement through his involvement with numerous social service, education, arts and municipal-related boards/commissions. He was a finalist for a 2010 White House Fellowship.
